Life of Pi

The Life of Pi was recently released on DVD after being in theaters for quite a while. The Life of Pi is based on a book, and is one of the most praised movies of 2012, and 2013. It is about a young boy, a quite odd young boy named Piscine. Piscine lives with his mother, father, and brother. His family owns a zoo, so he has been around exotic animals for a while. He was constantly teased about his name, which is also the name of a french pool,  so he spend a whole day trying to get his fellow students to call him "Pi" not Piscine. In order to earn his new nickname, Piscine learns and writes hundreds of the numbers of Pi, π. Because of his extraordinary ability to remember the numbers of Pi, he earns his nickname. Pi's name is not the only odd thing about him. He practices multiple religions at a time, well at least he tries to. Pi is a very curious boy when it comes to the way people act, and why they act that way. One day, his family is forced to sell their zoo due to money shortages. They begin their trek to America on a Japanese ship with their animals. On the 1st night of their trip, there is a huge thunder storm, and the ship goes down. The rest of the movie is about Pi, fighting for survival all alone. The Life of Pi won four Oscars, and numerous other awards from awards shows that don't come on TV. The Life of Pi was praised for it's mind-blowing graphics, and great developing story line. I thought the graphics were amazing, but the story was quite sad to me, because I am an animal lover. It saddened me to see the animals on the ship suffer. If you did not see The Life of Pi in theaters, it is just as great at home, especially if you bought the DVD in Blu-Ray. It is a must-see for everyone. So watch, enjoy, and be happy!
